FAQ

Answers to what comes up most before a job is booked, grouped by service. If yours isn't here, send it to us directly.

Tree Care

Professional arboriculture and tree-care service.

Do I need permission before a tree is removed?

Possibly. Protected trees, conservation areas, hedgerow rules and planning conditions can all apply, and they vary by site. Check with your local authority before work is booked — we will tell you if something looks like it needs consent, but the permission itself rests with the landowner.

Can you work on a site with restricted access?

Usually, yes — that is a large part of what the assessment is for. What matters is what can physically reach the tree and what the ground will carry. Where a machine cannot get in, the tree comes down in sections instead.

What happens to the timber and brash?

That is agreed at quote stage rather than left to the end of the job, because it changes both the work and the price. Chipping, removal or leaving material on site are all options depending on what suits you.

Can you deal with a tree that has come down in a storm?

Yes. Storm-damaged and hazardous trees are part of the service. Tell us what has happened and how the site is accessed, and we will advise on what the work involves.

Site Clearance

Vegetation and scrub clearance to prepare sites for development or other works.

What size of site can you clear?

From a single overgrown plot to multi-acre development and infrastructure sites. The approach and machinery scale with the job — get in touch with what you have and we will advise on how it would run.

What happens to the material that comes off site?

That is agreed at quote stage. Chipping, removal or leaving material on site are all options depending on the job and what suits you.

Do you handle stump removal as well as clearance?

Yes. Stump grinding and removal are part of the service where the ground needs to be left level rather than just cut back.

Can clearance be timed around a planning or construction start date?

Yes — clearance is often the first item on a fixed project timeline, and it is scoped and sequenced with that date in mind.

Pipeline Reinstatement

Landscape and land reinstatement following pipeline works.

How do you keep topsoil and subsoil separate?

Topsoil is stripped and stockpiled separately along the corridor before pipe-laying, then replaced in the same sequence once backfilling is complete, so the soil profile matches what was there originally.

Can you work across a corridor that crosses several landholdings?

Yes. Each landholding can have its own agreement on condition and reinstatement standard, and the work is sequenced to respect those differences along the same corridor.

Does reinstated land need reseeding?

Usually, yes, to match the surrounding pasture or land use. Reseeding is priced as part of the reinstatement rather than left as a separate job.

Who do you work for on pipeline projects — the utility or the landowner?

Reinstatement work is typically contracted through the utility or main works contractor, but the standard it's delivered to is set by the landowner agreement — both sides get looked after.

Plant Hire

Provision of specialist plant and machinery.

Can machinery be hired with an operator?

Yes, and it's often the better option — operators know the equipment because they run it on the business's own contracting work, not just on hire jobs.

What if my job turns out to need a bigger machine than I hired?

Because hire is drawn from an active contracting fleet with a range of plant and attachments, scaling up mid-job is usually straightforward to arrange.

Do you hire for short jobs or only longer periods?

Both. Hire is sized to the job, whether that's a few days or an extended period — get in touch with what you need.

Is plant hire the same as your contracting services?

No — plant hire supplies the machinery, with or without an operator, for you to direct the job. If you'd rather the work itself was carried out and managed, that sits under our other contracting services.

Agricultural Contracting

Machinery-led agricultural and land contracting.

Do you work to the farming calendar or your own schedule?

The farming calendar. Seasonal work like cultivation, silage and hedge cutting is booked around the windows the land and weather allow, not fitted in whenever suits the contractor.

Can you take on a one-off job as well as regular seasonal work?

Yes — both regular seasonal contracting and one-off jobs such as land reinstatement or heavier ground work are covered by the same team.

What if my land needs heavier machinery than routine contracting uses?

That's covered by the wider fleet the business runs for site clearance and plant hire, so a bigger job doesn't mean bringing in a second contractor.

Do you cover hedge cutting and boundary maintenance?

Yes, alongside cultivation, forage work and general land and drainage maintenance.

Wood Chipping

Specialist wood and timber chipping.

Can you chip material from a job someone else has already cut?

Yes — chipping can be arranged as a standalone visit for existing cut timber and brash, not only alongside our own tree or clearance work.

What size of material can be chipped?

That depends on the equipment brought to the job — get in touch with what you have and we'll advise on what's practical.

Do you take the chippings away?

Either — chippings can be removed from site, or left in place where they're wanted for mulch or ground cover. It's agreed as part of the job.

Is chipping available for storm or emergency work?

Yes, chipping capacity is brought alongside emergency tree and clean-up work so cut material doesn't sit on site.

Telecoms Vegetation Management

Vegetation management around telecoms infrastructure.

Can you work around live cabling and compound fencing?

Yes — work close to cabling and fencing is done by hand where machinery would risk damage, with flail or excavator work kept to the wider route.

Do you offer ongoing maintenance, or only one-off clearance?

Both. A route can be cleared once, or put on a scheduled maintenance visit so it doesn't close back in with regrowth.

Can clearance be timed against a fixed crew or delivery date?

Yes — telecoms access work is usually planned against exactly that kind of fixed date, and sequenced to have the route ready in advance.

Do you cover remote or difficult-access sites?

Yes, rural and restricted-access mast sites are a regular part of this work.

Solar Farm Landscaping

Vegetation and landscaping/land-management services associated with solar farms.

Can clearance be phased around a construction timeline?

Yes — clearance is typically sequenced field by field, so grazing or land use can continue on sections not yet needed until construction reaches them.

Do you handle vegetation management after the site is built, or just clearance?

Both. Pre-construction clearance and ongoing post-construction grass and scrub management are both part of the service, which keeps continuity across the life of the site.

Can you work to a fixed, planning-conditioned start date?

Yes — solar projects are usually tied to a specific planning or construction start date, and clearance is planned and phased against it.

Do you handle topsoil stripping and access track preparation as well as clearance?

Yes, topsoil handling and access track levelling for the construction contractor are part of the pre-construction work.
